BOOSTER - A randomised trial of an intervention for people in deprived communities in Sheffield providing support to sustain increases in physical activity levels.

It is well understood that whilst it is relatively easy to get people to take part in physical activity programmes in the short term, maintaining an increase in activity levels longer term, essential to maximise the health and wellbeing benefits, is more difficult.

The NIHR-funded "Booster" trial has recruited nearly 300 people aged between 40 and 65 and living in the more deprived parts of the city of Sheffield to a trial which is assessing the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of providing additional telephone or face-to-face support to help people who have successfully become more active to maintain these lifestyle changes.
