Whole Systems Planning for unscheduled care
The Innovations in Commissioning Theme has worked with leaders in Doncaster CCG to consider how to implement the key strategic objective of improving the quality of unscheduled care and reducing inappropriate admissions into hospital. The theme aims to promote the use of evidence based decision-making in systems redesign and has brought together the staff concerned with the redesign to engage in 'whole systems' events. The outcomes are demonstrating some critical challenges to commissioning for safer and more effective unscheduled care.

Within the whole systems event, all participants consider the evidence and a driver diagram method is used to categorise and expand upon the shared understanding of the problem. The project leaders are then able to develop their planning and identify interventions with the whole systems steering group. The role of the academic staff is to help clarify the priorities for action and to support evidence translation in decision-making.

On Thursday 25th July, Sally Fowler- Davis presented a report to the Doncaster CCG Unplanned Care Board. Her report can be found here.
