The Conversation Partners scheme, piloted with the support of CLAHRC SY has now been commissioned to provide conversational therapy for people with aphasia in the longer-term post stroke. CACTi and Conversation Partners are two different but complementary options to meet the longer-term needs of patients with aphasia. Both of these options include volunteers to delver and support the services. The two projects have therefore worked together to recruit volunteers through Sheffield Teaching Hospitals and train these people to assist in the delivery of long term services to people with aphasia. Three volunteers are currently working with us. The coordinators of the two complementary schemes work closely together to offer the most appropriate scheme to the patients referred (some patients benefit from both!).
